Avinash is a director PM leading several key initiatives on our Ad platform, as well as running the Yahoo APM program. Here are his thoughts on how being an APM (class of ‘14) has shaped his career:
Being part of the APM community has helped shape my career in many ways:
🌍 Because the APM program brings together enterprising individuals from diverse backgrounds, it broadens your perspective and sparks creative ideas which helps you solve problems holistically and inclusively. The program helps you build a worldview.
🔗 Since APMs are spread across the company and they know someone from every part of the organization, it becomes a lot easier to get things done through collaboration. APMs are wicked fast, wonderful to collaborate with, and strong agents of change across the company.
🥇 APMs are expected (and coached) to win. They are encouraged to make bold choices without the fear of failing. APMs work on very important projects. They are given opportunities to pitch directly to the CEO and are held accountable for execution and to drive meaningful results.
Though this may all sound uncomfortable, you end up shipping a lot, learning a lot, and growing a lot. Fortune favors the bold.
